Men of all ages are susceptible to orthopedic ailments, whether in the form of back pain, shoulder pain, or knee pain.

Fred Speck, MD, an orthopedic surgeon with SJMC Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, says there are a variety of orthopedic conditions that affect men differently. 

“Sometimes men will engage in some activity over one weekend and quickly learn they’ve overdone it when they wake up on Monday morning with a myriad of aches and pains that weren’t there before,” said Speck.

When it comes to going to the doctor, men are notorious for putting off those appointments until they don't feel well, or they notice something awry in their bodies. By the time they do seek medical care, they may be facing a full-blown diagnosis.

Nominations were submitted online and reviewed by the Permian Basin Great 25 nurses Board of Directors and a community panel of non-clinical individuals. Nurses were acknowledged not only their work in the profession, but also for their exceptional achievements and work within their communities.
