One of the most important ways to prevent severe damage from a stroke is to recognize the early warning signs of somebody experiencing a stroke. The American Stroke Association has provided this easy tool to help identify symptoms of a potential stroke with the acronym F.A.S.T.: 

Headache and Facial Pain

Movement Disorders Center

Movement Disorders

Patients with suspected a suspected movement disorder receive a detailed clinical evaluation, laboratory testing and imaging as appropriate.  If applicable, a comprehensive program of medications and therapies are initiated.  Patients are also provided with educational resources, programming, and have access to novel surgical and research treatments.  Support group resources for the patient and family are also available.

Dementia

The Memory Center at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center provides a comprehensive evaluation of memory difficulties.  Early in the disease process, there may be only memory loss or slowing of thinking reported.  We work closely with patients and families to provide neurological evaluation, memory testing, imaging, labs, and neuropsychological testing as appropriate to develop a diagnosis and treatment plan.  We also provide a cognitive optimization evaluation for those who are experiencing cognitive decline.

Patient-centered care is a primary focus at St. Elizabeth’s neurology department.  Our physicians use the latest clinical examination skills, lab work, and imaging studies to diagnose neurological conditions. Once diagnosed, our patients are provided with advanced medications, surgical procedures, and holistic care to treat their neurological conditions.  While we are focused on treatment, we are also interested in prevention and develop complete care plans with this in mind.
