Image-guided Biopsy

What is an Image-guided Biopsy?

A biopsy is the removal of very small pieces of tissue from a body organ or mass, so that a pathologist may examine it under the microscope to identify various types of disease. The information gained is then used to name the disease (diagnosis) and determine appropriate treatment.

PET-CT Imaging

A PET-CT combines the best features of anatomic imaging and physiological evaluation. Two scans are performed simultaneously – a computed tomographic scan, which evaluates anatomy, and a positron emission tomography scan, which evaluates physiology by studying where glucose is being used in the body. It is the most accurate tool for imaging many cancers.

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine images provide functional information and can help to determine the severity of a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease, gastrointestinal disease, endocrine problems, neurological disorders and other abnormalities within the body. Because nuclear medicine procedures are able to precisely locate molecular activity within the body, these imaging procedures offer the potential to identify disease in its earliest stages as well as a patient’s immediate response to possible therapeutic interventions.
