Holy Family Hospital, Methuen has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke quality achievement award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability.

Dr. Cindy John, a cardiologist with Steward Health Group, is passionate about helping her patients create habits for optimal heart health.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States,” said Dr. John. “Every 36 seconds – in the time it takes for you to send a text message – someone dies from cardiovascular disease in this country.”

These facts have driven Dr. John to become a fierce advocate in the fight against heart disease, educating her patients on risk factors and preventative measures to keep their heart health in check.

Stroke Coordinator Lisa DeMello MSN, RN, ACNS-BC explains AF, its diagnosis and risks. 

What is atrial fibrillation (AF)?
AF is an irregular heartbeat/rhythm in which the heart muscle fails to contract strong and rhythmically.  As a result, there may not be enough oxygen-rich blood being pumped out in the body.  

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Joshua Arkin, MD, to the medical staff. Dr. Arkin is board certified in Interventional Cardiology and General Cardiology. 

Dr. Arkin completed his undergraduate work at University of Pennsylvania before attending Tufts University School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and was chief resident and a cardiology fellow at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania.
