Evidence-based programs serving our communities' needs.

As part of our Community Health Program, Good Samaritan Medical Center is committed to offering the following programs to residents living in the surrounding greater Brockton communities on a regular basis:

Programs

Medical-Legal Partnership
Now in its fourth year, the Medical Legal Partnership (MLP) established with The Boston MLP supports the mission for providers to deliver care for low-income individuals and families including keeping them healthy and safe. MLPs integrate attorneys as a vital component of the health care team to address unmet legal needs. Through direct legal assistance, institutional and systemic policy change, MLPs deal with the social determinants that can impact a patient’s health.

Behavioral Health
Recognizing that behavioral health patients are complex and often challenged by obstacles, Good Samaritan Medical Center implemented a Behavioral Health Navigator program in the Emergency Department. Trained navigators assess patients and work within in a network of coordinated care to secure appropriate placement for patients upon discharge. Navigators work with community health advocates to help patients understand and access public health insurance benefits when appropriate. In addition, our team of providers actively collaborates with local community organizations to coordinate services for vulnerable patients and help stabilize them in the community.

Obesity and Nutrition
Our commitment to the health and well-being of the community we serve includes a comprehensive plan to reduce the obesity rates among both children and adults through educational seminars, support groups, and charitable giving. We are an active member of the Brockton’s Promise Healthy Start Coalition, we support Farmers Market’s goals, and have partnered with Brockton Neighborhood Health Center to provide free vegetable vouchers for eligible patients to use at local markets. We continue to collaborate with Trinity Catholic Academy to assess the BMI program and support health and nutrition education for a diverse population of 450 students in grades K through eight.

Cardiovascular Care
Good Samaritan Medical Center’s educational campaign on the importance of heart health is a continuous effort throughout the year. We offer education and certification for CPR, ACLS, and BLS to health care providers and the community, and continue our commitment to support community partners such as the American Heart Association. With special attention to the needs of vulnerable populations, Good Samaritan Medical Center organized quarterly seminars, which included topics such as the effects of high cholesterol and the importance of a balanced diet. One such seminar in partnership with the Massasoit English as a Second Language (ESOL) Program had over 100 community members in attendance. Also offered through the medical center were smoking cessation programs for employees as well as community members.
