(WATERTOWN, MA) October 1, 2019– On September 18, more than 100 employees of Steward Medical Group rolled up their sleeves and dived into a day of giving back to aid more than 1,400 children in Massachusetts by volunteering at Cradles to Crayons in Boston.
The volunteers from Steward Medical Group, a physician-led multispecialty practice that is a key part of Steward Health Care, spent the day sorting clothing donations to create complete outfits for children, fulfilling wish lists for recipients, as well as shining up kids’ shoes and boots for the coming winter season. Volunteers also created “KidPacks,” an assortment of required school supplies in a backpack which will be distributed to more than 120 kids.
“Our employees are very civic-minded and enjoyed volunteering for an effort that can immediately benefit children in our communities and beyond,” said Ashley Koch, Chief Financial Officer of Steward Medical Group. “We’re proud to partner with Cradles to Crayons and look forward to future opportunities to lend our hands.”
Overall, Cradles to Crayons helps support approximately 145,000 children across the Commonwealth, although the real need is closer to 250,000 children who could benefit from the volunteer efforts, according to Cradles to Crayons.
“Our hope is that we continue to attract more volunteers who will continue to assist us in our goals to serve our communities,” said Katie Amoro, Director of Development at Cradles to Crayons. “We have made huge strides in broadening the number of children we are able to help and know there is a lot more need out there that we can help address. This work would not be possible without the help of volunteers like the employees at Steward Medical Group.”

Steward Medical Group also used the opportunity for internal team-building, encouraging employees who may not typically encounter each other in a work day get to know one another, and fostering collaboration among staff.
