Sebastian, Florida (May 28, 2024) –Sebastian River Medical Center, a Steward Family Hospital, is pleased to announce that John P. Sullivan, M.D., FAAOS, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in joint preservation and joint replacement surgery for over twenty years, has joined Steward Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.

“Dr. Sullivan will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to Sebastian River Medical Center,” said Ron Bierman, President of Sebastian River Medical Center. “The scope of his abilities compliments our current orthopedic team and will allow us to provide high quality care more efficiently to the Indian River County residents.”

Dr. Sullivan earned his medical degree from New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at State University of New York in Brooklyn, New York. He went on to complete his orthopedic adult reconstruction fellowship at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

“I suffered a few injuries when I played sports in high school and when I ran Division 1 track in college, which prompted my interest in sports medicine and orthopedics from an early age,” explains Dr. Sullivan as to why he entered the specialty. He also really enjoys working with his hands and receives satisfaction from being able to help people feel better relatively quickly. “For me there is nothing better than when my patients come back a month or two after surgery and give me a big hug because they are so thankful that they are feeling better,” said Dr. Sullivan.

He specializes in joint preservation with cartilage replacement, platelet rich plasma and ultrasound guided injections. If a patient requires surgery, Dr. Sullivan excels in minimally invasive techniques to full joint replacements for knees, hips, and shoulders.
