Today, Steward Health Care System LLC (Steward) announced the appointment of Roger D. Mitty, MD, as interim president of St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton. Mitty has been a part of St. Elizabeth’s medical staff for more than twenty years. Most recently, he served as the Chief of Gastroenterology at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Vice President of the Medical Business unit of Steward Medical Group and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine.

“After more than 20 years at St. Elizabeth’s, Roger Mitty understands the needs of our patients, he is well respected by our medical staff, and he has a vision for St. Elizabeth’s future” said Mark Girard, MD, President of Steward Hospitals. “We are very pleased to promote from within our organization and to have a physician at the helm of St Elizabeth’s Medical Center.”

“It is an honor to lead St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, an excellent organization that I have been a part of during my entire professional career. I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue to bring high quality, leading-edge care to our patients,” explained Dr. Roger Mitty.

In his new role, effective immediately, Mitty will maintain his medical license but transition the care of most of his patients to colleagues within his practice. He will be communicating these changes to his patients in the coming weeks. Mitty succeeds Kevin Hannifan after he stepped down as President of St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center earlier this week.

Steward also announced today that Michael Collins is the new Chief Administrative Officer at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. Born and raised in Boston, Collins has significant experience in the Steward system. He was the President of Merrimack Valley Hospital (now called Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley) in Haverhill from 2007-2012 and has served as CFO of the Steward Hospital division for the past two years.

“St Elizabeth’s is an important part of our system and I believe that it will grow even stronger under the leadership of Dr. Roger Mitty and Michael Collins,” concluded Girard.
